The W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies invites everyone to celebrate Bloomsday at USP on June 12, 2026. The event will be divided into two parts: the first, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will include lectures by Professors Sandra Vasconcelos and Marcelo Tápia, as well as translator Luci Collin. The second part, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., will feature readings from Homer and Joyce, along with a musical session presenting a repertoire of songs connected to the Joycean universe.
Bloomsday celebrates Thursday, June 16th 1904, the day immortalised in James Joyce’s 1922 novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, one of the novel’s protagonists. The celebrations come in many different forms, including readings, performances, reenactments, tours, exhibitions, lectures, children’s events, a film festival, and a host of other festivities. Bloomsday is celebrated by Joyceans and admirers of literature across the globe. (Source: Bloomsday Festival)
